Dated May 27, 2021, Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity.

This prayer puts the first paragraph of the Catechism of the Catholic Church into a memorable format. That paragraph is the “kerygma.” It is the proclamation of the message of salvation. Most importantly, it teaches that God is divinely happy; “blissful” would be a more literal translation into English of the Latin word “beatitudo.” Furthermore, He desires that all of humanity participate in His divine happiness. It is called the “blessed” life in the Catechism.

Interestingly, social scientific research today points to certain human actions and their accompanying thoughts and emotions as indicators of human happiness. Often, these indicators are preparation for participation in divine happiness. Thus, Christ established in His Church the sacraments as temporary participation now during our earthly pilgrimage of God’s eternally happy life to come.

Some Catholics offer this prayer at the beginning of catechetical gatherings or classes, like religious education or OCIA.
